This is a self improvement course that I have begun taking. It is free so I am putting the information here for anyone that might be interested.

I’m evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they’re letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.

I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it’s still free.

More Lowchen Puppies for Sale

Posted by roselandfarm on March 6th, 2008

wk12008r3-4-08pup5.jpgwk12008r3-4-08pup4.jpgwk12008r3-4-08pup3.jpgwk12008r3-4-08pup2.jpgwk12008r3-4-08pup1.jpgA new litter was born on February 26, 2008. There are 5 puppies in the litter, which is a relatively big litter since usually there are 2 - 4 in the average litter. There are 2 boys and 3 girls. As Lowchen change their coat color over time, it is too hard to predict what their adult colors will be exactly. But, the two puppies who are seal brown right now, could turn out the same color as their sire. The other three puppies who are black, will probably lighten into some shade of grey. Weekly updated pictures and purchase information for the puppies can be seen on Roseland Farm’s web site.

Ashford Lowchen Puppies For Sale!

Posted by Ginidenninger on February 22nd, 2008

Ch. Ashford’s Malachi at CordinAshford’s Tenille-Motherpuppy-show-prospect.jpgpuppy-colorado-bound.jpgpuppy-available-male.jpgpuppy-available-female.jpgThese are the latest Ashford Kennel Lowchen Puppies. They have been raised by Co-breeder Stacy Strickland in Buffalo NY, but are currently in residence with Gini Denninger, in Rochester NY. The Happy (puppies are gone) Mommy is Ashfords Tenille, who is now retired officially from breeding. She resides with Stacy’s In-Laws. The Happy (to finally sire puppies) Dad Ch. Ashfords Malachi at Cordin lives near Olean NY. He is the grandson of Australian Import and first major breed record holder Ch. El Guarda Capt. Starlite, who was imported by Gini Denninger from Australia. This is his first litter, and hopefully there will be more to come!

One puppy is spoken for and leaving for Colorado, where he will join his brother, another spoiled Ashford dog. One of his owners (Christine) is a pilot for Continental Airlines, who flies as Captain the huge 777!!!! One puppy is a promising show prospect and will stay with Stacy & Gini to become an American Kennel Club champion.

The little girl is the only girl and is all girl. She is very sweet and yet playful. She is the least bossy of the group, but has had to have some toughness to hold her own against three brawling brothers.

The boy that is available has an incredible coat already! He takes after his grandfather & father who both have very lush rich coats. His face is as sweet as his fathers. He is the biggest of the four puppies but should not go too big, but he will be at the large end of the breed standard.

For more information on these Lowchen puppies contact Stacy Strickland by phone. Cell: 716-445-9333. Home: 716-683-2461. Or Gini Denninger at 585-760-3880.

Electrical Safety In Your Home

Posted by Ginidenninger on February 18th, 2008

fire-safety.jpgYour home is your haven, the place where you feel safe and secure. Yet, every year many people are hurt or killed because of home fires, many of which are caused by electrical problems. Even an electrical shock can seriously injure. Don’t neglect important safety issues.

One of the first things you can do is a walk through to check for damaged outlets. Loose fitting plugs can overheat and cause a fire. If you see a dark spot on the wall above the outlet, that is a sure sign the plug needs to be replaced. Other things to look for are broken plugs and cracked or broken housing. In fact, all older plugs should be updated. Newer ones accommodate a three-prong cord. And never, never remove the third prong!

Be sure electrical extension cords are not overloaded and their use is temporary. Extension cords are not strong enough to use on a permanent basis. Your extension cords should have a safety closure to prevent young children from injury. If it shows any signs of fraying, throw it out.

Even the smallest of children can be educated on electrical safety issues. It is important to pay close attention and to teach children the safety rules regarding this important utility. Caution them on the dangers of mishandling anything electrical. You can purchase inexpensive items that prevent very small children from putting their tiny fingers in a plug.

First and foremost - water and electricity do not mix. If an appliance falls in water, turn off the power source at the panel board and then unplug the appliance. Do not use it again until you’re sure it is thoroughly dry. If you are plugging something in while out of doors, check to make sure it is rated for the power needed and that it will safely handle the job.

Many people use space heaters in chilly weather. They are meant for supplemental heat only. Do not ever use them in a room where children are unsupervised and keep them clear of anything that might cause a fire, such as clothing, bedding or draperies and curtains.

If in doubt, contact a qualified electrician. Better to be safe than sorry.

Lowchen

Posted by roselandfarm on February 14th, 2008

Ashford’s Omran At RoselandIn the sport of purebred, AKC dogs, there is a little known breed called Lowchen. The Lowchen is a small (10-13 inches at the shoulder) dog with a big heart and a lot of love. This is an old breed, dating back (by surviving artwork) to the 1400’s. This is a long haired breed, but was given a “lion” clip to provide warmth to royalty and members of the court. As the lion was associated with bravery, these little dogs were commonly preferred by the knights and were seen on shields and gravestones.

The AKC breed standard for the Lowchen. The Canadian breed standard for the Lowchen. This standard has some nice pictures depicting the various aspects of the breed.

The Lowchen is a non-sheding breed, which makes it perfect for families where dog hair allergies are a concern. Although they are shown in the lion clip, many pet owners prefer to keep them in a “puppy” cut to elminate the grooming required with the lion clip.

The Lowchen is an active dog, but after a 15-20 minute run likes to settle down in their owner’s lap. They love all kinds of weather, especially the snow in the winter where they frequently burrow through the snow or roll around making snow angels.

I am new to the breed, after having and breeding Great Danes for 20 some years. My Lowchen love to play with my Danes and are fearless around the bigger dogs. I am showing my Lowchen and hope to finish them both in the US and Canada. I have also done a little bit of Rally classes with the Lowchen and find them eager to learn the stations.

My friend and co-owner, Gini Denninger has been in the breed for over 20 years. She has done extensive research on the history of the breed and even wrote a book (currently out of print) called The Lowchen the Breed Forgotten by History. Gini lives here in Rochester and you can read some of her real estate blogs on this site.

I live in Webster, NY and have a web site for both my Great Danes and Lowchen. Please visit my site to see my Great Danes and Lowchen. I am also an active member of the Genesee Valley Kennel Club which has been in the Rochester area since before 1936 and has an active web site.

TWO COMMON HOME BUYING MISTAKES

Posted by Ginidenninger on February 13th, 2008

home-buying.jpgBuying a home is serious business. It’s a long term commitment and probably the most money you’ll ever spend for anything in your lifetime. Avoiding two of the most common mistakes will lead to a more satisfactory outcome.

Mistake number one is shopping without your own representative. A buyers agent will have your best interests in mind. So, if you find a property that has potential, be sure your agent is there looking out for you. As a team, you can zero in on a home that meets your criteria and negotiate a winning contract.

Mistake number two would be to look at a property strictly from an investment standpoint. You are buying much more than a house. You’re purchasing a home and all that represents. It’s where you’ll build your life, entertain friends and escape from the world. Your home is a place of comfort and security so consider your emotional needs when making a decision. For instance, if you simply must putter in the yard, a high rise condo, even though it’s an excellent investment, may never truly feel like home.

A real home is a love affair. Choose wisely.
