The club was incorporated in 1936 and this year will be conducting their 76th and 77th AKC all-breed dog show in July.

Club meetings are on the second Monday of the month, every month except August. The meetings are open to the general public. This is a great opportunity to meet other people who know and understand purebred dogs. While many of our members show and breed their dogs, this is not a requirement of club membership.

Besides the two all-breed dog shows, the club has a very active web site. In addition, the club offers a breeder referral program, show handling classes, puppy socialization classes, CGC classes, first aid for dogs classes, matches, etc.

Please take time to look at the club’s web site for more information about activities and membership.

There are 5 puppies in the litter, which is a relatively big litter since usually there are 2 - 4 in the average litter. There are 2 boys and 3 girls. As Lowchen change their coat color over time, it is too hard to predict what their adult colors will be exactly. But, the two puppies who are seal brown right now, could turn out the same color as their sire. The other three puppies who are black, will probably lighten into some shade of grey. Weekly updated pictures and purchase information for the puppies can be seen on Roseland Farm’s web site.

They have been raised by Co-breeder Stacy Strickland in Buffalo NY, but are currently in residence with Gini Denninger, in Rochester NY. The Happy (puppies are gone) Mommy is Ashfords Tenille, who is now retired officially from breeding. She resides with Stacy’s In-Laws. The Happy (to finally sire puppies) Dad Ch. Ashfords Malachi at Cordin lives near Olean NY. He is the grandson of Australian Import and first major breed record holder Ch. El Guarda Capt. Starlite, who was imported by Gini Denninger from Australia. This is his first litter, and hopefully there will be more to come!

One puppy is spoken for and leaving for Colorado, where he will join his brother, another spoiled Ashford dog. One of his owners (Christine) is a pilot for Continental Airlines, who flies as Captain the huge 777!!!! One puppy is a promising show prospect and will stay with Stacy & Gini to become an American Kennel Club champion.

The little girl is the only girl and is all girl. She is very sweet and yet playful. She is the least bossy of the group, but has had to have some toughness to hold her own against three brawling brothers.

The boy that is available has an incredible coat already! He takes after his grandfather & father who both have very lush rich coats. His face is as sweet as his fathers. He is the biggest of the four puppies but should not go too big, but he will be at the large end of the breed standard.

For more information on these Lowchen puppies contact Stacy Strickland by phone. Cell: 716-445-9333. Home: 716-683-2461. Or Gini Denninger at 585-760-3880.

Your home is your haven, the place where you feel safe and secure. Yet, every year many people are hurt or killed because of home fires, many of which are caused by electrical problems. Even an electrical shock can seriously injure. Don’t neglect important safety issues.

One of the first things you can do is a walk through to check for damaged outlets. Loose fitting plugs can overheat and cause a fire. If you see a dark spot on the wall above the outlet, that is a sure sign the plug needs to be replaced. Other things to look for are broken plugs and cracked or broken housing. In fact, all older plugs should be updated. Newer ones accommodate a three-prong cord. And never, never remove the third prong!

Be sure electrical extension cords are not overloaded and their use is temporary. Extension cords are not strong enough to use on a permanent basis. Your extension cords should have a safety closure to prevent young children from injury. If it shows any signs of fraying, throw it out.

Even the smallest of children can be educated on electrical safety issues. It is important to pay close attention and to teach children the safety rules regarding this important utility. Caution them on the dangers of mishandling anything electrical. You can purchase inexpensive items that prevent very small children from putting their tiny fingers in a plug.

First and foremost - water and electricity do not mix. If an appliance falls in water, turn off the power source at the panel board and then unplug the appliance. Do not use it again until you’re sure it is thoroughly dry. If you are plugging something in while out of doors, check to make sure it is rated for the power needed and that it will safely handle the job.

Many people use space heaters in chilly weather. They are meant for supplemental heat only. Do not ever use them in a room where children are unsupervised and keep them clear of anything that might cause a fire, such as clothing, bedding or draperies and curtains.

If in doubt, contact a qualified electrician. Better to be safe than sorry.
